Hello Chapel Community —
Following up on this announcement from April, I wanted to report that while we've received lots of good brainstorming and concern/sympathy from the community, applied to a few grant opportunities, and reached out to potential sources of funding, to date we have not found a solid source of funding to continue supporting Chapel going forward.
As a result, barring some unexpected good news showing up soon, we currently anticipate that September's Chapel 2.10 release will be the final version released in the project's traditional configuration. That's not to say that Chapel will disappear or stop working, but we will not have full-time resources to continue working on it as we typically have, and future development or support will depend on the interest and/or ability of individuals to continue working on it in their spare time. The project will continue to be owned by the Linux Foundation through its High Performance Software Foundation and governed by the Technical Steering committee as it has been.
In the meantime, we are still working on Chapel daily and supporting user issues as they come in, so don't be shy about reaching out with questions, problems, and requests if you have them.
