Now that implicit read/writes of syncs are deprecated (Deprecate implicit reads/writes for sync/single by mppf · Pull Request #17287 · chapel-lang/chapel · GitHub), it is no longer suggested to annotate syncs by appending $ to their variable name. However, our documentation on syncs still uses this naming style:
